Abstract
Project Summary - Administrative core The role of the Administrative Core is to ensure that the Ophthalmology Core Facility will (1) provide support for 39 vision researchers at OHSU to help them successfully achieve their current research goals, tap into new experimental approaches, and to successfully obtain ongoing funding for their future research goals; (2) take full advantage of the broad, âbench to bedsideâ vision research infrastructure at OHSU by creating and strengthening collaborations between basic, clinical, and translational vision researchers; and (3) continue to support the academic advancement of junior investigators as they pursue independent research careers. Overall core PI, Dr. Kate Keller, will work closely with the four core co-Directors to ensure success of this P30 core grant. An Executive Committee, consisting of Dr. Keller, the eight core co-Directors, and Dr. John Morrison, who was Overall PI of the previous two cycles of this P30, will meet regularly twice a year to monitor access to and quality of services provided by each of the four cores to vision researchers at OHSU. Executive committee meetings will be attended by Brad Noren, Research & Grants Administrator, and Blake Bliven, Finance & Accounts Analyst, to help provide input on grant regulatory and budgeting issues and avoid preventable lapses or cost overruns. The Executive Committee will also monitor distribution and use of funds, track core accomplishments, and engage in an on-going discussion of potential emerging technologies that might be useful to users. An Oversight Committee will consist of Dr. Keller, senior Casey Leadership (Drs. Lauer and Huang), OHSU member, Dr. Marc Freeman (Professor and Director of the Vollum Institute at OHSU), and Dr. Michelle Callegan, Professor and Director of Vision Research Dean McGee Eye Institute at the University of Oklahoma. The main role of the Oversight Committee will be advisory, to review core activity, suggest improvements and, in particular, help identify new research opportunities outside the OHSU vision research community. Access to core services will be kept fair and equitable through electronic calendar sign-ups for heavily used equipment and through frequent direct communication between researchers and core co-Directors. Feedback on core services will be sought through direct communication and via annual on-line surveys. Communication methods include Microsoft Outlook email, Webex virtual video conferencing, by MS Teams, and by mobile phones. Scientific communication will be encouraged through regular dissemination of research publications, monthly OHSU Vision Science seminars that will juxtapose clinical and basic research presentations, and annual Casey research retreats.
