Abstract
Given the persistent burden of anal and cervical cancer among certain population groups at increased risk for the disease there is a need for translational research to improve prevention, early detection, diagnosis, and treatment. The proposed PeRsonalized Outreach and Multifaceted Interventions for Screening Enhancement (PROMISE) for Anal and Cervical Cancer Prevention and Treatment Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE) will fill this gap. PROMISE leverages robust resources in artificial intelligence (AI), bioinformatics, biostatistics, and community outreach and engagement at our top-tier partner research institutions, the Schools of Medicine at Emory University and University of Miami and the Morehouse School of Medicine as well as NCI-designated Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and Winship Cancer Center. Proposed studies include 1) AI-driven patho-genomic predictive models for personalized treatment of cervical and anal cancers; 2) Anal self-sampling for human papillomavirus (HPV); and 3) The dynamics of immune signatures and microbiome in patients with cervical pre-cancer and cancer among women. Our Career Enhancement and Developmental Research programs will also support investigators who wish to enhance or refocus their careers on translational cancer research in a series of pilot projects. The mission of the Administrative Core (Admin Core) is to provide the organizational leadership needed for the SPORE to achieve its goals of career and research development, partnership building, and capacity building. As a unit, the Admin Core is comprised of an Executive Committee (executive decision leadership) and a Steering Committee (multiple principal investigators and Core Leadership). The Admin Core also manages the partnership with the Internal, External and Community Advisory Boards. The leadership within the Admin Core is crucial to achieving the goals of the PROMISE SPORE. Administrative and scientific leadership will be conducted in a collaborative, integrative manner across the SPORE. Members of the Admin Core represent the three research organizations (University of Miami, Emory University, and Morehouse School of Medicine), who have significant experience in previous collaborations, working in partnership for this proposal.
