Abstract
OCULAR STRUCTURE and FUNCTION MODULE Project Summary The Ocular Structure and Function (OSF) module aims to enhance the capabilities of NEI R01- funded investigators in advancing their vision research. This module provides a comprehensive set of tools for ocular phenotyping through morphological analysis, light and electron microscopy, ocular imaging, and functional vision testing. The objective of the OSF module is to improve the effectiveness of individual investigators in performing vision research by 1) Providing essential equipment, training, and support for histological studies, ocular imaging, and functional visual testing. 2) Promoting collaborations and collegiality among basic and clinical vision scientists encouraging the sharing of resources, techniques, and expertise. 3) Supporting all vision researchers, including new faculty and both experienced and novice users. The module is fully equipped with state-of-the-art ocular imaging and visual testing instruments, as well as microtomes, cryostats, and histology tools. It is managed and operated by a highly experienced manager with specific expertise in tissue processing, immunostaining, and interpreting services for histological evaluation. Additionally, this module will provide access to prototyping services including fabrication. The OSF module is a centralized resource for users to generate experimental paradigms of animal models of ocular disease perform surgical procedures, follow disease progression and test treatment ideas for development of newer therapeutics.
