Abstract

Project Summary – Applied Research Component This project supports continued funding for the National Xenopus Resource (NXR) located at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, MA. In this applied research component, we propose to continue our work on improving cryopreservation of Xenopus sperm. Many researchers are unable to maintain several different strains in their colony and rely on the use of cryopreserved sperm to be able to generate different transgenic embryos for their research. Although we have a method for cryopreserving sperm, it is not reliable and often we must repeat the procedure if the cryo sperm does not work well. We are also attempting to use French straws instead of vials as they provide a greater surface area and smaller footprint.
