Abstract

PROJECT SUMMARY/ABSTRACT – ADMINISTRATION CORE OF THE DLDCCC Since our previous submission in 2019, we are delighted to report that we have recruited a new Associate Director for Administration, Mr. Chris Horaist, who has overseen a complete restructuring of this component in the past four years. In addition, in 2022, Pavan Reddy, MD was recruited to BCM to be the new Director of the Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center (DLDCCC), and he completed a significant overhaul of many components of the matrix center, to better align with the needs of its members and the multi-national catchment area it serves. Specifically, in response to site reviewers and subsequent recommendations from the External Advisory Board, Mr. Horaist contracted with an outside consulting group, Huron, to validate with external benchmarks the DLDCCC’s administrative structural and organization needs. This work resulted in the addition of 7 FTEs in the areas of general administration, data management, program coordination, and research development and communications. Coupling these staff additions with a reporting structure reorganization to the AD for Administration led to a doubling of FTEs reporting up to the AD. Demonstrating the commitment of the institution to the Cancer Center, these recruiting achievements were made possible by new strategic support from BCM. The reorganization of the overall administrative support team under the AD for Administration has allowed for consolidated administrative support functions and improved coordination of efforts under centralized leadership to better meet the requirements of the DLDCCC and NCI. To continue on this path toward excellence, Administration proposes three specific aims: 1. Administrative alignment and expertise; 2. Administrative process engagement and support; and 3. Relationship building with BCM and clinical leaders. Overall, the DLDCCC Administrative team partners effectively with academic departments and BCM administrative leaders, finance, human resources, grants management, and other institutional departments to accomplish the overall goals of our Cancer Center.
