Abstract

PROJECT SUMMARY: CURATON AND INFORMATICS COMPONENT The Squirrel Monkey Breeding and Research Resource (SMBRR), P40 OD010938 is part of the Michale E Keeling Center for Comparative Medicine and Research (KCCMR) which is a core resource within The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. The KCCMR has more than 2,200 nonhuman primates including the ~ 500 squirrel monkeys that comprise the SMBRR. Health data and monkey demographic information are routinely collected in the SMBRR individuals as part of their veterinarian care surveillance program. Additionally, when squirrel monkeys die from natural causes or are euthanized for quality-of-life reasons, both frozen and formalin-fixed materials are collected from various tissues as well as other pathological data. Lastly, we have a growing body of genomic data including whole genome sequencing and DNA methylation data. In the proposed studies, we aim to standardize the curation of health data and banking of biological materials collected from the SMBRR animals, including genomic data. These data will be organized across different resource databases to allow for easy access to archived information on all monkeys. Importantly, in the proposed studies, we will develop a searchable web portal, referred to as the National Squirrel Monkey Resource (NSMR). Withing the NSMR, users will be able to search and identify relevant health, biological, genomic or other resource materials available within the SMBRR. Users will also be able to request specific material through the web portal. To strengthen our ability to quantify use of materials within the SMBRR, we will also record the number of unique visitors to the NSMR portal, number of requests for materials and document publications utilizing materials and animals requested via the NSMR.
