Abstract

PROJECT SUMMARY: Administrative Core The overarching goal of the Administrative Core is to provide the operational support necessary to successfully achieve the goals we have laid out for each Project, Scientific Core, and our Program as a whole. The Administrative Core will serve as a central forum for communication, planning, coordination of training, and common administrative and financial management among the Projects and Cores. We will maximize efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and productivity by centralizing resources used by each of the Projects and Cores. The Administrative Core will be led by Dr. Thomas Quertermous and will involve the Project and Core leaders. Internal and External Advisory Boards will have oversight of the individual Projects and Cores, and will assist with the overall direction and integration of the PPG as a whole. Day-to-day operations of the Administrative Core will be overseen by Project Manager Dr. Chong Park. The Administrative Core has the following specific aims: 1) Establish a collaborative organizational structure to coordinate the administrative and fiscal management of the entire PPG. 2) Enhance and promote effective communication and cooperation among program leaders and investigators to integrate the scientific efforts of all Projects and Cores, track timelines and milestones, handle day-to-day management, monitor project productivity and resources, and perform overall quality control. 3) Implement a scientific evaluation and oversight program for strategic advice on accomplishing research objectives and prioritizing future directions. 4) Ensure research compliance with federal policies, university regulations, and sponsor requirements. 5) Oversee collaborative outreach and broad dissemination of research results through publications, conference presentations, public lectures, and use of media in collaboration with Stanford communication offices to promote PPG research, as well as assist with communication and dissemination of information for stakeholders and the broader research community. 6) Organize the training component of the PPG, i.e., presentations by trainees at the monthly PPG Research in Progress Meetings, as well as monthly journal clubs with Project Leaders. 7) Foster diversity in the scientific design of Projects and in research staff and trainees. The Administrative Core will provide fully integrated administrative services for the management, communications, coordination, and financial administration of our PPG. In doing so, the Administrative Core will support the overall PPG in transforming our understanding of genetic risk for vascular diseases. The Administrative Core will provide centralized resources to each Project and Core, eliminating redundancy and enabling high-impact research.
