Abstract

Description: The purpose of the Peptide Synthesis Shared Resource is to provide Center investigators with high quality custom peptides designed specifically for their experiments. Service provided include consultation on peptide design, synthesis and purification of peptides, and characterization of peptides by mass spectroscopy. The facility operates an ACT 396 Multiple Peptide Synthesizer capable of preparing 96 peptides up to 15 mg each at a given run, a HPLC system for purification of peptides, a Beckman 2200 HPCE system for capillary electrophoresis analysis of peptides, and a mass spectrograph. Peptides are synthesized every other week and 8-10 peptides are purified each day. The Director of the facility is Dr. Joseph Reeve and there is one part-time technician. The facility is supported by three centers including the Cancer Center, Center for Digestive Diseases Research, and the Multipurpose Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Diseases Center and by user fees. Between 1992 and 1996, the facility has prepared 2,798 peptides for 73 investigators of which 29 percent are Cancer Center members.
