Abstract
Core D: Regional Core â Technologies Advancing Translation Aim 1. To establish a network of researchers, clinicians, and health administrators across Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee to enhance knowledge sharing activities focused on technological approaches in diabetes prevention and care. Rationale: Dissemination of new advances has an important role in stimulating research questions and implementation and evaluation of innovations in communities and in practice. Knowledge sharing forums where âideas collideâ stimulate new ways of understanding the world and spark new collaborative ventures. Key Regional Core activities to support this aim include: ⢠Working closely with GCDTRâs Enrichment Program to deliver communications targeted to priority audiences using online (interactive peer network), email, and social media (âpushâ messaging). ⢠Developing a one-stop peer Collaborative Learning Network on the GCDTR website to facilitate knowledge sharing and interactive forums to address practical concerns organized by technology topics. ⢠Utilizing GCDTRâs networks and structures to disseminate to relevant technology standards organizations. Aim 2. To provide expertise and consulting in five key technological and methodological areas: a) user-centered driven approaches; b) patient interactive technologies; c) wearables and automated insulin delivery; d) artificial intelligence and Big Data; and e) electronic health records and clinical decision support; with specific guidance on improving outcomes and promoting health for all. Rationale: there are persistent gaps in adoption of technologies in routine diabetes prevention and care, especially for populations who exhibit differences in health outcomes. Key Regional Core activities to support this aim include: ⢠Assembling relevant technology studies and materials as key educational resources. ⢠Hosting virtual seminars and roundtables to share best practices including inviting technology experts who may be new to diabetes care. ⢠Providing studio consultations to assist regional investigators and trainees on key technology areas. Aim 3. To conduct focused technology assessments to identify research gaps (in our five key technology areas) that inform annual requests for technology-focused pilot grant opportunities in diabetes prevention and care in diverse populations, older patients, and those with multimorbidity. Rationale: Persistent gaps in capabilities and expertise create barriers to the successful adoption of technologies in diabetes prevention and care. Key Regional Core activities to support this aim: ⢠Conducting annual surveys regarding successes and gaps across network members to guide requests for project applications from network partners (in collaboration with the Pilot & Feasibility [P&F] Program). ⢠Funding projects that inform how to optimize the reach, adoption, implementation, effectiveness, and maintenance of technologies to improve and shape outcomes in diabetes prevention and care. Impacts: In close collaboration with the GCDTRâs Enrichment and P&F Programs, and Cores, the Regional Core will advance the availability, accessibility, and usability of key technologies that promote equitable and cost-effective diabetes prevention and management across partner institutions in the region. The Regional Core will also share its expertise and material with the wider CDTR network nationally.
