Abstract
REVISED Project Summary/Abstract â Analysis Core The Analysis Core (AnC) will support the vision and activities of the Deep South RCMAR by providing mentoring and training to Scientists in the areas of methods, measurement, assessment of social determinants of health (SDOH), and secondary data analysis as it relates to aging and health disparities. The AnC will achieve this goal by leveraging existing expertise, data resources, and infrastructure at our four partnering institutions (University of Alabama at Birmingham, Morehouse School of Medicine, Tuskegee University, and The University of Alabama). The AnC aims consist of a three-fold strategy. First, we will collaborate with the Research Education Core (REC) and the Community Liaison and Recruitment Core (CLRC) to mentor and train Scientists in research methodology, the assessment of social determinants of health (SDOH), and measurement of constructs related to the study of health conditions of older adults in the Deep South. This will include: a) conducting training in research methods, creating scales and assessing the reliability and validity of current measures within Deep South populations, and how to incorporate measures of SDOH into psychosocial studies of health or aging in the Deep South and b) facilitating linkage of Scientists with methodological, biostatistical, and analytical resources available within the Deep South RCMAR. Second, in collaboration with the REC and the CLRC, we will mentor and train Scientists in conducting secondary data analyses using psychosocial, economic, clinical, and genetic data with the long-term goal of informing the development and evaluation of interventions to address health concerns among older adults in the Deep South. This will include: a) conducting training in secondary data analysis with a focus on data with Deep South RCMAR expertise; b) facilitating mentoring of Scientists in the analysis of secondary data by establishing workgroups comprised of Deep South RCMAR faculty and Scientists with expertise in datasets relevant to aging in the Deep South; and c) funding a secondary analysis award each year to increase the productivity of RCMAR Scientists. Finally, we will (a) collaborate with other RCMAR sites in the dissemination of reliable and valid measures and secondary data analysis techniques relevant to aging, and in the promotion of the importance of training early career researchers to become independent investigators.
