Abstract

REVISED PROJECT SUMMARY—ANALYSIS CORE The overall goal of the Analyses Core (AnC) is to provide biostatistical, epidemiological, and methodological training, mentoring and assistance, and to guide junior investigators in the conduct of translational longevity and aging research that integrates biological, social, behavioral, and cultural considerations. Our methodology repertoire includes biomedical data science, digital health methods, precision medicine techniques and virtual reality and simulation-based interventions), qualitative, mixed methods research, and implementation science. The AnC will review, monitor, and provide guidance and continuing biostatistical, bioinformatics and database support for our junior investigators. We will closely collaborate within our center with the Leadership and Administration Core and the Research Education Component to provide continuing individualized consulting, training, and education. The strength of our core lies in our experienced core investigators with complementary expertise/experience and exceptional devotion to mentoring and education of early career researchers. Along with mentoring and consulting, the AnC will provide formal education through statistics and methods classes in the Stanford Psychiatry Department. As our pilot awardees are early career researchers, special care will be taken to ensure that, they have opportunities to learn from faculty experts who are actively developing cutting edge statistical and research methods with the common goal of advancing longevity and healthy aging research. Our specific aims are: Aim 1: Promote scientifically robust and data-driven research methodologies to better understand the impact of chronic diseases on the health and healthcare of all older adults. Aim 2: Provide biostatistical and other methodological training in a variety of approaches as well as training in research ethics, rigor, reproducibility, and replicability that will inform design of their pilot projects and future research studies. Aim 3: Function as a research incubator and provide “start-to-finish” logistical support and ongoing mentoring to our pilot awardees on various aspects of the pilot research process. Aim 4: Facilitate collaboration among our pilot awardees, senior investigators within the Stanford Medicine and across the nation.
