Abstract
Modified Project Summary/Abstract Section PROJECT SUMMARY â Duke Center for AIDS Research (Overall) The vision of the Duke Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) is to foster interdisciplinary collaborations and catalyze translational research innovations with the goal of transforming care for people with or at risk of HIV infection to end the HIV epidemic, with a particular focus on the Southeastern United States. To achieve this vision in the next phase of our CFAR, we will foster a research ecosystem supportive of the next generation of HIV investigators, stimulate multidisciplinary collaboration and team science, provide cutting edge infrastructure, and promote and disseminate knowledge across our institution, community, and beyond. To ensure that the scientific discoveries supported by the CFAR are translated rapidly, we will extend our partnerships and collaborations with community organizations, local and state public health departments and academic institutions to align our work with the health priorities of our communities and patients. The Duke CFAR brings together 5 service Cores, a health services SWG, and community engagement to support HIV researchers in reducing the burden of HIV and ending the epidemic. We will accomplish this through by: 1) Providing resources and infrastructure to foster innovative and rigorous research by early-stage and established HIV investigators and investigators new to HIV research. 2) Implementing innovative approaches to invest in and nurture the next generation of HIV investigators. 3) Cultivating collaborations within the Duke CFAR, across CFARs, and with affected groups across our state and region to collectively respond to HIV. 4) Advance and foster global partnerships to strengthen bi-directional capacity building in HIV science. 5) Accelerate dissemination and implementation of medical discoveries to broadly reach all populations with or at risk of HIV. Looking forward, the Duke CFAR is poised to build on new and established programs and capabilities to markedly increase our impact and make community-aligned strategic investments to address research priorities to reduce the burden of HIV and end the epidemic. The CFAR looks forward to developing and exploring these timely opportunities within Duke and across the CFAR network throughout the next funding cycle.
