The Nursing Program for Advancing Training in Health and Social Determinants (NPATHS) is a comprehensive research training initiative for nurse scientists consisting of three core components: 1) in-person intensive, 2) monthly learning modules (asynchronous) and webinars (synchronous), and 3) mentored research experiences. The program is designed to support early-career nurse scientists and allied healthcare professionals in acquiring the knowledge and skills needed to conduct and disseminate research about important determinates of health to improve health outcomes for all patients. The program goals are to: 1) Enhance participant understanding of determinates of health frameworks and concepts; 2) Strengthen their capacity to apply these concepts in the design, analysis, implementation, and dissemination of research; and 3) Expand the volume and rigor of nurse-led research focused on health outcomes research. The 10-month program begins with an in-person intensive that fosters collaborative learning and relationship-building for research skill development. Participants will also participate in monthly webinars (synchronous) and have access to online, self-paced modules (asynchronous) to support applied learning and research skill development. Participants will also engage in one-on-one mentorship to facilitate mentored research experiences. The program is open to those with a nursing background and allied health professionals. Curriculum development is planned will be reviewed by an interdisciplinary advisory committee. The planned activities include curriculum development, and recruitment in Year 1, followed by implementation and dissemination activities in Years 2 and 3.
