Abstract

The Tony Mazzocchi Center (TMC) seeks continued funding for our extensive training Trust in Training partnership involving over two million at-risk hazardous materials workers, chemical responders, and skilled support personnel. Through our proposed HWWTP five-year program, we will conduct 405 courses to reach 7,092 at-risk workers, including those in vulnerable communities, resulting in 80,068 hours of training a year to prevent occupational fatalities and life-altering injuries, illnesses, and releases of hazardous substances. Since 1987 we have provided 13,103 HWWTP-funded classes for 280,261 at-risk workers. Through our proposed HDPTP five-year program, we will conduct 65 courses to reach 1,205 workers and community members with 11,120 hours of training a year. Our Specialized Emergency Response Trainers, (SERTs) will conduct training in Spanish, English, and American Sign Language (ASL), on disaster preparedness and emergency response for clean-up and recovery workers, and for community members facing massive human-made and natural weather-related disasters. Since 2005, we have provided 1,060 HDPTP funded classes for 23,071 at-risk workers. Target Populations: The TMC partnership has an exceptionally large, at-risk population we have access to over two million workers spanning across the United States, including Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands. Together our partnership reaches workers in varied sectors who are exposed to hazardous substances/materials covered by OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910, EPA 40 CFR 311, and DOT 49 CFR 171-177.
