Abstract
Project Summary/Abstract (Data & Analytics Core) The Data & Analytics Core supports the overall mission of the Indiana Diabetes Research Center (IDRC) to promote cutting edge research in diabetes and related metabolic disorders; foster collaboration; and support training by offering state of the art computational and informatics services for large and/or multidimensional datasets. Our services align with the NIDDKâs Strategic Plan for Research by: (1) developing and sharing innovative computational technologies and data resources to facilitate the scientific progress of IDRC investigators and to enhance the health of the communities we serve; (2) optimizing clinical research tools and resources for the analysis and planning of clinical studies; and (3) improving dissemination and implementation of evidence-based strategies to improve health. Formed in 2023, the overall goal of the Data & Analytics Core is to unlock the diabetes research and discovery potential of âomics and real-world electronic health record (EHR) data. The âomics-related services of the Core are built on the overwhelming success of a pilot program to provide diabetes-focused bioinformatics services, which was housed in the IDRC Translation Core from 2020 until the establishment of the Data & Analytics Core. The EHR-related services of the Core complement long-standing EHR data assets and services housed at the Indiana University School of Medicine by providing diabetes-specific and tailored support to basic and clinical scientists in the IDRC. The long-term goals of the Data & Analytics Core are to facilitate the incorporation of advanced data analysis techniques into IDRC researchersâ projects and to educate our research community on new and emerging methods to advance our understanding of molecular and environmental contributors to human health and disease. Drs. Mosley and Harle are the Co-Directors of the Core, and Dr. Wu is the Associate Director. The Data & Analytics Core closely interfaces with the IDRC Translation, Microscopy, and Islet & Physiology Cores to meet the experimental needs of our User base, while adhering to the highest standards of rigor and reproducibility. The Data & Analytics Core will achieve the following aims: (1) Facilitate understanding and interpretation of investigator-generated âomicsâ datasets and translate this complex information to actionable experimentation. (2) Create and facilitate use of real-world EHR datasets that support translation of findings from model and preclinical systems findings to humans. (3) Facilitate access to, training in, and reuse of existing datasets that can be utilized to support the work of IDRC investigators.
