Abstract
Enhancing Healthcare in Internal Medicine Subspecialties This R13 proposal seeks to address key challenges in healthcare delivery within several critical subspecialties of internal medicine, including Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, HIV/AIDS, Gastroenterology, Cardiology, Pulmonology, Nephrology, and Oncology. The project, titled Enhancing Healthcare in Internal Medicine Subspecialties, will focus on improving health outcomes across diverse populations. We aim to engage early career investigators and trainees by fostering awareness of healthcare challenges during our Annual Convention & Scientific Assembly. The program is designed to promote the development of young researchers with an interest in academic medicine and a commitment to improving healthcare. Through mentoring by NMA Internal Medicine Section steering committee members and senior faculty, these early career professionals will have the opportunity to network and grow in their research pursuits. Award recipients will present their research posters during the NMA General Poster Presentation session, providing them exposure to a wide audience of physicians across various specialties, such as Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, OB/GYN, and more. Additionally, high-scoring abstracts will be incorporated into CME sessions, and select researchers will be invited to deliver brief oral presentations within their respective subspecialties during Internal Medicine sessions. Further opportunities for presentation and feedback will be offered within the NMA IM Section schedule, creating intimate settings for scholarly exchange and practice in presenting research. To encourage networking and collaboration, we will host a luncheon and dinner where early career investigators can engage in discussions around healthcare access and outcomes with IM faculty. This setting will foster deeper connections and provide valuable career guidance.
