Abstract
PROJECT SUMMARY/ABSTRACT - ADMINISTRATIVE/PROGRAM ENRICHMENT CORE The Administrative/Program Enrichment Core will administer and oversee all activities conducted by the Oklahoma Nathan Shock Center at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, and the Oklahoma City VA Medical Center. The PEC will continue to publicize services of the Research Cores, run the Seminar Series in Aging and Geroscience and the Johnson/Sokatch Lectures, organize the annual Oklahoma Geroscience Symposium, and evaluate performance of Cores, Programs, and the overall NSC. Together with these activities, to achieve the NSC's goal to enable sustained, accelerated progress in the biology of aging and geroscience research, the PEC will also administer three new programs: the Geroscience Biorepository (GBR), the Geroscience Toolbox (GT), and the Geroinformatics Resource (GIR). For all these programs and activities, outreach, inter-NSC communication and logistics, and their tracking, will be coordinated by the NSC3. The PEC will advance the NSC's goal with the following aims: Aim 1. Provide administrative support, and define impact of our NSC through an objective evaluation of Research Cores, NSC Programs and the overall NSC. The PEC will manage the NSC, promote integration of Cores, and evaluate performance of Cores, Programs, and the NSC annually by the Internal Advisory Committee; every other year by the External Advisory Committee; will monitor performance using internal data shared with the Nathan Shock Centers Coordinating Center (NSC3); and will coordinate with the NSC3 the administration of semiannual user surveys. Data will be used to evaluate user satisfaction and metrics of Core and overall NSC performance and impact. Aim 2. Promote/publicize services and activities of the Cores through the NSC3 and the Oklahoma NSC webpage, the new Geroscience Webinar Series, the NSC's social media platforms together with the Research Development Core (RDC), participation of NSC leadership in premier aging/geroscience meetings. Aim 3. Provide intellectual and organizational leadership to grow interest in aging and geroscience in Oklahoma and the US through the NSC's Seminar Series in Aging and Geroscience, the Johnson/Sokatch lectures, hosting the NIA Summer Training Course in Experimental Aging Research, participating in NSC3 activities including NSC Directors' meetings, and organizing the annual Oklahoma NSC Geroscience Symposium and the biennial Oklahoma Gero-Oncology Symposium. Aim 4. Provide investigators with (a) statistical support and advanced bioinformatics tools, (b) access to protocols, SOPs, and videos, and (c) access to biosamples and new aging models for basic and translational research on aging/geroscience through (a) the Geroinformatics Resource (b) the Geroscience Toolbox, and (c) the Geroscience Biorepository. The PEC ensures effectiveness of Research Core activities, and works with the RDC ensure access by all US researchers to NSC programs and resources.
