Abstract
Administrative Core Abstract: The PITT-ADRC Administrative Core has functioned for nearly 40 years to operate a cohesive, coordinated, and effective Alzheimerâs Disease Research Center. The Core functions to provide central coordination, oversight and leadership to the various core components, Research Education Component, and Developmental Projects. The Core has also developed a pipeline to collaborate with PITT on faculty recruitment and retention across a diverse range of expertise, fostering an environment of collaboration and team science. Another administrative function critical the Core function and overall Center success, is to liaise with PITT-ADRC internal and external advisors to determine progress and overall direction of the Center. Finally, the Core provides the infrastructure and oversight to allow for broad data sharing and dissemination of key research findings to the scientific and lay communities. The Core provides the organizational structure and leadership for planning and implementation of all activities aimed at the fulfillment of the PITT-ADRC mission and goals. The Core monitors budgets to ensure fiscal responsibility and organizes the review and funding process for the Developmental Projects and the philanthropically funded pilot studies. It monitors all PITT-ADRC research projects utilizing PITT-ADRC participants or resources including regulatory compliance. Establishment of outreach efforts to the medically underserved and historically excluded communities are directed and stimulated by the Core. The Core also oversees participation in multicenter studies, data transfer to NIA databases, tissue, and DNA samples to NIA repositories, cross-ADRC collaborations, and other national and international initiatives. Through the establishment of a comprehensive communications system the Core Leaders, investigators, and staff maintain an integrated, coherent, and multidisciplinary focus. The goals of the Core are achieved by the Executive Committee, which is comprised of the Director, Co- Directors, Center Administrators, Core Leads and Co-Leads. It is aided in these tasks by advice of the Internal and External Advisory Committees. They provide scientific advice on research and operations of the PITT- ADRC, as well as recommendations for new initiatives. The Core coordinates a well-established research infrastructure that will serve to the local, national, and international scientific community. The Core will continue improving the ADRC data collection and distribution in collaboration with NIA and NACC. To provide infrastructure for broad data sharing, the Core will also partner across ADRC, scientific, and lay communities. We will provide modernized data sharing infrastructure to ensure integrity and seamless sharing of data with NACC and other repositories as well as with the entire ADRD community. Finally, the Core will oversee all aspects of the PITT-ADRC Theme to ensure investigator engagement, quality data collection, and inclusivity.
