Abstract
Mount Sinai ADRC (Sano): Outreach, Recruitment and Engagement Core (Core E) â Research Summary The overarching goals of the Outreach, Recruitment and Engagement Core are to provide targeted outreach to a culturally, racially, economically and cognitively diverse group of older community members to ensure recruitment and retention for investigators in the ISMMS-ADRC and allied collaborators. Our activities are well-integrated with the other Cores and our accomplishments have been achieved through close collaboration with other departments at the Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS), and a number of community organizations including the CaringKind, the Alzheimerâs Association, Project Linkage, and Union Settlement. We will be focusing our attentions on community gatekeepers, as well as on exploring barriers to blood draws and imaging and developing outreach materials to address this. New collaborations will include solidifying and expanding our relationships with Black/African American senior centers in Central Harlem. Our registry will become two tiered â one (âCenter Interestedâ) which will serve primarily as an information portal and to maintain engagement with the broader community, and a smaller one within it (âTrial Interestedâ) which will be focused directly on bringing people into available clinical trials and studies. The Core will disseminate information widely and explain new knowledge to professionals, trainees and the lay public. We will continue our successful programs like the Virtual Lunch talk Series and support interdisciplinary hybrid/webinars featuring basic, translational and clinical talks. For the community we will providing outreach programs in English and Spanish, new written and web-based information, broadened social media presence, and community events that publicize the latest developments in dementia research. The Core will continue to work closely with our CAB made up of older diverse community members, to identify research priorities, address barriers, and guide the development of recruitment strategies. With training and support, the CAB will partner with the Core to co-present at senior centers as knowledgeable peers. Retention and engagement will be fostered through expanding our successful programs (e.g. ADRC Virtual Lunch Series, and the Newsletter), continue the important caregiver support by our social worker, and expanding our registry retention with new staff engaging our participants. Needs analyses and assessment of the return on our recruitment and outreach investments and surveys and interviews will help modify programs and guide future projects. Outcomes will be evaluated through feedback forms, surveys, questionnaires, and pre-post tests and results will be used to modify and plan future efforts.
