Abstract

Administrative Core (Core A) – Research Summary The role of the Administrative Core is to provide leadership to accomplish the mission to, “utilize the polygenic risk scores (PRS), fluid and imaging biomarkers, cognitive phenotype, and neuropathological profiles associated with vulnerability or resistance to disease to uncover unique pathways to diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of ADRD.” The Core is committed to collaborating with a diverse community of participants and supports delivery of transformative education and mentoring to assure diverse perspectives and innovation in the next generation of leaders. The Core is led by the Center Director (Sano) who is supported by the ADRC administrator (Ardolino) and a team of regulatory and grant development staff. The Associate Directors provide specialized skill and leadership with Dr. Alison Goate supporting the science and resources around genetics, Dr. Patrick Hoff who coordinates our rich, educational environment, and personalized mentoring across all Cores, and Dr. Sam Gandy supporting clinical translational science. The goals of the Core are to provide administrative and operational infrastructure through an Executive Committee (EC), which is composed of the leads of each Core. The EC meets twice a month to assure coordination across Cores and locations, review progress of center goals, present updates for interaction and involvement with other research programs within Mount Sinai as well as across the field, and to review novel science. The team is supported by internal advisors who represent institutional leadership, academic and research expertise. The Core is responsible for oversight of research and grants administrative processes, including budgetary, regulatory, institutional compliance, and faculty and staff development and promotion. It assures responsiveness to NIA, NACC, NCRAD, and SCAN and confirms timely data submission. The Core is also responsible for assembling an External Advisors Committee (EAC) chosen with program staff to provide annual program evaluation. Led by Dr. Loizos, the Core administers a dynamic program to support Developmental Projects, which includes creating a request for application, assuring wide dissemination, establishing a review panel, conducting reviews, selection, tracking, and monitoring progress of recipients. The Administrative Core coordinates the self-evaluation and review process in which Core leads, using a structured tool, rate performance on 5 element and present the evaluation to the EC for review. The EC reviews progress and recommends remediation as needed, such as realignment of resources, or adjustment of goal and mission. These administrative activities assure the Center can meet its goal of maximizing scientific contribution and translation of this success to clinical care.
