Abstract
NARRATIVE SUMMARY OF THE OUTREACH, RECRUITMENT, AND ENGAGEMENT CORE The Outreach, Recruitment, and Engagement (ORE) Core of the Yale ARDC assists the Clinical Core in recruiting and retaining a diverse participant population. This is accomplished through communication with health care professionals, service providers, and the general public via a variety of modalities. We work closely with the Clinical Core and other cores to engage and retain participants. We enhance our educational efforts with the general public through our collaboration with the Connecticut Chapter of the Alzheimerâs Association, the Yale Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program, and other community-based organizations. We have a mechanism for tracking individuals seeking information on Alzheimerâs disease from a variety of sources and on those who express an interest in research participation. We will work with the Clinical and Data Management and Statistics Cores to establish and maintain a Registry of individuals potentially interested in research participation. We evaluate the effectiveness of different outreach and engagement activities in recruitment and adjust subsequent efforts based on these findings. We have expanded the expertise and diversity of ORE Core leadership and will further expand ORE personnel to include a dedicated full-time community liaison to interface with the recruitment coordinator and the Clinical Core. Working with our clinical partners, including local Federally Qualified Health Centers, the Cultural Ambassador Program of the Yale Center for Clinical Investigation (YCCI), and our Community Advisory Board (CAB), as well as community- based partner organizations, we will continue to identify community leaders who can help advocate for research participation and facilitate bi-directional information flow with the community. Our CAB has been helpful in engaging and recruiting increasingly diverse participants. These efforts will be further aided by the recently added capability to provide Spanish language interviews. Throughout all these efforts, we will utilize, expand, and optimize existing infrastructure whenever possible to leverage ADRC resources and help to ensure the implementation and sustainability of our programs.
