Abstract
PROJECT SUMMARY - RESEARCH EDUCATION COMPONENT (REC) The Research Education Component (REC) for the UC Irvine Alzheimerâs Disease Research Center (UCI ADRC) provides state of the art training that contributes to the development of a workforce with expertise in Alzheimer Disease (AD) and AD Related Disorders (ADRD) research. The REC will identify scholars and tailor personalized curricula that leverages training opportunities capitalizing on the full AD/ADRD research ecosystem at UCI. Training will be provide to 3-4 junior investigators (basic science to clinicians) from multidisciplinary backgrounds and leveraging the full and unique resources of the UCI ADRC. Our REC practices inclusive excellence and values diversity. Training will include structured workshops and seminars that provide instruction on the responsible conduct of research and professional skills such as grant writing, networking, negotiation, and worklife balance. Critically important, one-on-one mentoring by ADRC faculty will provide immersion in multidisciplinary and team science approaches to the study of AD/ADRD and the importance of collaboration, innovation, and education. The REC will provide a framework for training, mentorship and protected and dedicated time for ADRC training activities. We systematically measure outcomes representing program satisfaction and scholar learning, independence, and career success. Successful scholars are expected to achieve key milestones on the path to independent careers in AD/ADRD research.
