Abstract

PROJECT SUMMARY – ADMINISTRATIVE CORE (CORE A) The University of California Irvine Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (UCI ADRC) Administrative Core provides strong innovative leadership, oversight and support, and orchestrates the integration and centeredness of the cores of the Center (Clinical, Data Management and Statistical, Neuropathology, Outreach Recruitment and Engagement, induced Pluripotent Stem Cell, Biomarker, Down Syndrome, and Oldest- Old) and the Research Education Component (REC). The Core leaders provide shared governance through membership in an Executive Committee to ensure progress toward the central and unifying theme of the UCI ADRC: “to accelerate discovery in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and AD Related Disorders (ADRD) research across special populations.” Beyond attending to the administrative details of the Center, the Administrative Core focuses on six broad activities that have significant impact on our overall mission and productivity: promote centeredness; train, nurture, and diversify the next generation of AD/ADRD clinicians and scientists; engage and recruit new faculty; facilitate AD/ADRD research; ensure that our researchers have state-of-the-art resources and facilities; and actively engage in philanthropy. The Administrative Core facilitates the Center’s overall goals of collaboration, innovation, and education, and promotes the National Alzheimer’s Project Act (NAPA) research implementation milestones and goals. The Administrative Core capitalizes on opportunities to grow our Center and played a major role in recruiting several new faculty to the ADRC over the past four years, while also embracing the next generation of leaders at UCI by providing research resources, unique training opportunities, and other forms of support. The leaders of the Administrative Core are deeply committed and devote a significant amount of time to ensure that our Center is successful and cutting-edge. This active engagement includes overseeing transitions in leadership and ensuring the vitality of the Center and continuation of its mission until the goal of discovering solutions for AD/ ADRD that benefit everyone is achieved.
