Abstract

Abstract Administrative Core The goal of the Wisconsin Nathan Shock Center (WiNSC) is to identify and define crucial and novel metabolic aspects of aging and age-related conditions and use this information for translational purposes. The Administrative Core will provide fiscal oversight and administrative support to all activities of the WiNSC, creating an environment that catalyzes cutting-edge research within the thematic framework of the Center. The Administrative Core will facilitate and support all aspects of WiNSC activity; enable collaboration with other Nathan Shock Centers (NSC); facilitate communication and data sharing among investigators (locally, regionally, and nationally); actively participate in the organization of meetings, seminars, annual conference, and the bi- annual Nathan Shock Centers Meeting; and organize outreach programs directed toward the scientific and lay communities. To provide optimal support and to ensure the success of the WiNSC overall we have defined the following strategic goals: a) Provide visionary, goal directed leadership and coordinate all the WiNSC activities to ensure optimal utilization of resources and effective communication and interaction among the Core Leaders, Center personnel, and investigators; b) Foster collaborative research, identify and support meritorious new research avenues, and provide administrative and logistic support to ensure success of WiNSC associated activities; c) Provide fiscal leadership and oversight of all WiNSC activities and ensure strict compliance with all applicable federal, state, and university regulations; d) Ensure that all WiNSC-associated programs and investigators perform to the highest standards of quality and productivity, and are in strict compliance with research regulations, fiscal policies, and scientific integrity, at federal, state, and university levels; e) Promote scientific communication within and beyond the WiNSC through a website, social media presence, publications, and a schedule of meetings, seminars, annual conferences, and outreach to the lay public; f) Participate in a national program of aging research excellence. To ensure that the WiNSC contributes to the growth of basic aging research nationally, the Administrative Core will coordinate an annual meeting and will also organize outreach on behalf of the WiNSC to the general public. To promote the growth and success of the NSC network WiNSC will participate in the bi-annual NSC conferences and will coordinate activities with the Coordinating Center including contributing materials and expertise to support the national NSC network.
