Abstract

Summary Administrative Core The role of the Administrative Core has been to oversee the long-term objective of building a sustainable Center for Population Health Research (CPHR) that supports investigators engaged in innovative population health research across multiple disciplines. Through these Core functions, CPHR has realized substantial success as measured by graduation of Research Project Leads (RPLs) as independent investigators, recruitment of new RPLs and other CPHR-affiliated investigators, substantial grant and publication achievements, two established research support cores that service an expanding user base, an engaged and supportive Advisory Committee, and a formative and summative evaluation strategy. Our well-established Center is now prepared to continue building upon these successes. In this Phase 2 COBRE proposal, the overall objective of the Administrative Core is to continue building a sustainable Center to support investigators engaged in population health research across the lifespan. We will achieve this objective through the following specific aims: Aim 1 is to continue providing administrative, fiscal, and scientific leadership and oversight for a well-integrated Center. New activities in these three areas include additional core personnel to lead a proposal development program, management of research core user charges, and support for inter-disciplinary team science initiatives. Aim 2 is to continue supporting a robust science-base center culture focused on mentorship and professional development of early stage investigators. Aim 3 is to continue building a critical mass of CPHR-engaged researchers through support for research projects, pilot projects, and new hires. Aim 4 is to identify strategies for continuous improvement through rigorous formative and summative evaluation. Overall, the Administrative Core is the key resource for integration across research core and project components to ensure CPHR continued progression towards long-term sustainability as an impactful research center for improving health among rural and other vulnerable populations in our state.
