Abstract
ABSTRACT ADMINISTRATIVE CORE The Administrative Core (Core A) will be directed by Dr. David Harrison, the overall PPG director, and will be co-directed by Yu Shyr, the Professor and Chair of Department of Biostatistics. Core A will provide oversight of the science for the component projects. This will involve a monthly All Investigators Meeting and monthly individual meetings between the Project Directors and Dr. Harrison. Yearly joint meetings of the project directors, core directors, and the External Advisory committee will be coordinated by Core A. Ms. Amy Shelton, the Business Manager for Clinical Pharmacology and Ms. Jozee Schnitker, the grants manager for Clinical Pharmacology will assist Dr. Harrison in oversight of these administrative matters. A major goal of Core A will be to provide biostatistical support to all investigators in this program project. Through the Bioinformatics and Biostatistical Component (BBC), Dr. Shyr and his colleagues will provide study design recommendations and will review all laboratory, and animal studies including feasibility assessment, power analysis, and sample size estimation. The BBC will collaborate project data analysis, interpretation of results, and the writing of final study reports and manuscripts. The BBC will also assist in developing research project databases, to maintain data quality control and to ensure timely data capture and will data capture. Dr. Shyr and colleagues will work closely with the Project Directors to develop and evaluate statistical methods for experimental design and data analysis. A third aim of Core A will be to provide administrative support to the projects and cores. This includes financial management of the awarded funds, grant disbursements, record-keeping and purchasing. Core A will coordinate all personnel issues and maintain personnel records and databases. This will require interaction with the VUMC Human Resources. Core A will be responsible for record-keeping and compliance with institutional requirements. Core A will also be responsible for preparation and submission of all progress reports and other required communications with the NIH. A final, and yet extremely important role of Core A will be to provide support for scientific and professional development of our Early-Stage Investigator, Matthew Alexander, MD, PhD. Core A will provide an optimal scientific environment for Dr. Alexanderâs investigative program and academic development through his interaction with other PIs and his Mentoring Team. Core A will organize interaction with external scientists and support their travel to Vanderbilt to consult on Dr. Alexanderâs scientific progress. Core A will also organize and support educational and training opportunities for Dr. Alexander though educational opportunities at Vanderbilt and through Scientific Meetings. Overall, Core A will ensure success of the PPG by providing all administrative support, biostatistical and bioinformatic guidance, and resources needed for advancing our understanding of the scientific questions addressed in each project.
