Abstract
DEVELOPMENTAL FUNDS ABSTRACT The UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center (JCCC) utilizes Development Funds from both CCSG and additional sources, including from philanthropy and JCCC discretionary pools, to intentionally stimulate high-priority research in support of the Cancer Center mission. These funds bolster transdisciplinary collaborations, research coordination, and scientific innovation, with guidance from current and next period JCCC Strategic Plan priorities that address the needs of Los Angeles County (LAC) catchment area communities. Fund use is responsive to Center planning, committee recommendations, and feedback through evaluation of collected data, progress, and achievements, enabling the Center to respond to emerging opportunities and challenges. The JCCC allocates Developmental Funds to supportive innovative and collaborative research through the JCCC peer-reviewed Intramural Awards Program (IAP) and to support strategic recruitment of new faculty members and retention of existing faculty members to increase and sustain exceptional talent in the Centerâs six Research Programs. Two Specific Aims guide the allocation of CCSG and additional Developmental Funds. Aim 1 is to provide resources for Strategic Plan-prioritized, peer-reviewed research that is responsive to LAC community needs through the IAP mechanism. Aim 2 is to allocate resources for recruiting and retaining talented faculty for current and emerging JCCC priority cancer research.
