Administration partners with JCCC Senior Leaders, Research Programs, Shared Resources, Clinical Research components, Community Outreach and Engagement (COE), Cancer Research Training and Education Coordination (CRTEC), and JCCC members to facilitate scientific initiatives and enable exceptional cancer research that serves the needs of the populations of Los Angeles County (LAC), the Centerâs catchment area. Since 2018, Melissa Neligan, MPH, CRA, a highly experienced executive leader, has served as Associate Director for Administration. With a team of 40 FTE, Administration facilitates Center operations, strategic initiatives, planning and evaluation activities, and provides comprehensive support and services to Center constituencies that foster cancer research, productivity, and collaboration. Responsibilities of Administration include oversight of the NCI Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) and associated reporting and data management activities, finance, human resources (HR), informatics, information technology (IT), communications, facilities, resource allocation, coordination of governance meetings, advisory boards, and events, shared resource management, and administrative staffing and support of COE and CRTEC units. Select accomplishments during the current funding period include the implementation and facilitated completion of 83% of the 2019 â 2023 Strategic Plan and partnership in the development of the 2024 â 2028 JCCC Strategic Plan; and launched a transformative, multilingual UCLA Health JCCC website to help unite the UCLA cancer enterprise under the JCCC. Administration supported the recruitment of 41 new JCCC faculty members and facilitated funding 126 intramural peer-reviewed awards, with a $9.6M investment returning $71M in new extramural direct cost funding and 224 publications thus far. In the next funding period, Administration is guided by four Specific Aims. (1) To execute the Center mission by implementing the Strategic Plan, and by facilitation and participation in all planning and evaluation activities. (2) To provide a highly effective administrative and operational infrastructure, with stewardship of Center resources, for services that meet the needs of JCCC and LAC communities. (3) To develop and implement informatics tools for real-time business intelligence, to guide informed decision making by JCCC Leadership. (4) To manage the Center CCSG by implementing policies and processes for oversight of membership, grant funding, publications, and other key data. Guided by the 2024 â 2028 JCCC Strategic Plan, Administration is creating an environment that fosters transdisciplinary and translational cancer research and is committed to enhancing the excellence of faculty, trainees, and staff to drive forward Center progress.
