Abstract

PROJECT SUMMARY – Alteration and Renovation The proposed renovation addresses the need for an expanded, temperature-controlled, laboratory space for human performance research at Norwich University and across the network. Since its establishment in 2016, the Department of Health and Human Performance has had significant growth in its programming and research activities leading to an increase of faculty hires dedicated to human performance research. The department has acquired research-grade workout equipment and monitoring devices through VBRN and other funding sources to bolster research activity. These advancements have strained the current laboratory space that is overcrowded and lacks the appropriate ventilation system. There is also a need for additional ceiling clearance above the treadmills to accommodate the equipment properly. The enhanced Human Performance laboratory at Norwich University will cater to the needs of both the institution's faculty and students, while also broadening research opportunities for collaboration and equipment sharing among members of the recently established VBRN Health and Movement Sciences Thematic Group. Moreover, the renovated lab provides a climate-controlled space that ensures the comfort and safety of human subjects involved in research activities.
