Abstract

P20 Administrative Core Modified Project Summary/Abstract Section PROJECT SUMMARY- ADMINISTRATIVE CORE The VBRN Administrative Core (AC) implements all aspects of our program, providing fiscal leadership, logistical support and regulatory compliance to all components. The three main missions of the AC are: (1) effective program management, including fiscal oversight; (2) maintenance of accurate and timely communication; and (3) continuous assessment of program effectiveness. The AC manages the DRPP program and the Data Science and Proteomics Cores to support faculty research and undergraduate training across the network. The Administrative Core central leadership team consists of the PI, the Associate Director, the Program Coordinator and Lead PUI Coordinator. Together with our Administrative Coordinator, this team supervises all program functions, including the DRPP program, the Student Research Program, and our yearly program events. These team members engage in weekly meetings to monitor program progress, integrate the concerns and perspectives of our PUI Research Coordinator Committee (PRCC), and identify new goals and opportunities for the network. The AC is advised by the Steering Committee (SC), the Executive Committee (EC) and the External Advisory Committee (EAC). The SC, whose members include research institutional leaders at the Lead and PUIs, identify common strategies for building institutional Cultures of Research, particularly through support of faculty scholarship and student research. The EC serves as a forum for the PUI Research Coordinators to identify strategic priorities with VBRN leadership and identify partnering opportunities with other VT IDEA programs. (i.e., the COBREs and NNE-CTR). The AC carries out a multilayer assessment program which includes feedback from the EAC to provide formative assessment, and formative assessment from Dartmouth’s Center for Program Design and Evaluation (CPDE) and The Implementation Group (TIG). CPDE tracks faculty/ student success and program activities, while TIG provides assessment of strategic direction. During INBRE 5, the AC will continually update and revise its procedures and policies to more effectively serve the missions described above. Relative to the previous cycle, the most significant changes include the addition to our reorganization of network partners (i.e. adding Landmark College and reorganization of Vermont State University campuses), the building of inter-institutional research collaborations (i.e. Thematic Research Groups), and the expansion of research and training opportunities to undergraduates across the network (i.e. CUREs). Through these activities, we continue working towards the goal of expanding the biomedical research infrastructure throughout the state of Vermont.
