Abstract

Project Summary/Abstract Advancing capacity in data science holds great promise for the analysis and interpretation of vast amounts of biomedical data. It is key for modeling complexities that facilitate a deeper understanding of biological processes and promotes multidisciplinary integration, enabling more effective collaborative and innovative research approaches. The application of data science is hindered by insufficient computational training, the accelerated pace of data generation, and the need for expertise and infrastructure often lacking at smaller institutions. This lack of experience and training capacity is exacerbated at Primarily Undergraduate Institutions (PUIs) without the critical mass to establish a Data Science Core (DSC). The overall goal of the NH-INBRE Data Science Core (DSC) is to support the data science needs of ongoing and new research projects by integrating data science training across our partner institutions. The proposed support extends through all phases of research projects and includes access to state-of-the-art computational infrastructure supported by NH-INBRE. To provide the most comprehensive support as a sustainable resource, we have combined support from a variety of sources to create and sustain a single statewide DSC with broad capacities. To accomplish our goals, we have two specific aims: Aim 1: Enhance the biomedical research capacity of New Hampshire at the eight primarily undergraduate institutions and the two lead institutions of the NH-INBRE by: 1) Supporting the data science needs of NH- INBRE research projects and enhancing sustainability of computational expertise across the network by providing support in diverse data science applications. 2). Providing sustainable, accessible, cost-effective, and well-managed computational infrastructure for data analysis, storage, and dissemination. Aim2: Create a sustainable, scalable, and impactful mechanism for training in data science by: Establishing and disseminating new training modules in aspects of data science and collaborating with Northeast INBRE Core directors to lead a team effort toward data science curriculum and research support. Achieving these goals will meet the research needs of INBRE-supported investigators and network partners for data science services and support the development of key skills and rigorous practices in alignment with the NIH strategic plan for data science.
