Abstract
MOLECULAR AND CELL BIOLOGY RESOURCES CORE (MCBRC)-SUMMARY The Molecular and Cell Biology Resources Core (MCBRC) utilizes existing facilities within LSU A&M campus and other research-intensive institutions in Louisiana including three major medical centers to support faculty, staff, and students at primarily undergraduate institutions (PUIs). MCBRC is administered by the School of Veterinary Medicine's Division of Biotechnology and Molecular Medicine (BioMMed) to provide access to core facilities offering expertise in gene expression, protein production, immunology, pathology, and microscopy. MCBRC facilitates access to various resources across Louisiana and coordinates with NIH-funded COBRE Centers for Pre-Clinical Cancer Research (CPCCR) and Lung Biology and Disease (CLBD) headquartered at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine. It maintains a database of specialized equipment within LSU A&M and other research-intensive institutions in Louisiana and provides wet lab space and vivarium access for LBRN investigators conducting animal experiments at dedicated laboratories at LSU. Specific aims include providing resources and expertise in molecular and cell biology technologies, training and supporting LBRN investigators, and fostering interactions among researchers. MCBRC's centralized equipment, services, and training capabilities enhance molecular and cell biology and immunopathology research, maximizing efficiency and aiding PUIs in adopting new technologies for in vitro and in vivo studies using experimental animal model systems. Also, MCBRC facilitates access of equipment and resources available by the collaborating research-intensive institutions.
