Abstract
AWARE CENTER ENGAGEMENT AND DISSEMINATION CORE The goal of the Aging Well with HIV through Alcohol Research and Risk Reduction and Education (AWAR3E) Center is to characterize the modifiable role of unhealthy alcohol use in inflammaging and associated geriatric syndromes among people with HIV. Our focus includes a careful exploration of health among those with socioeconomic disadvantage measured by Area Deprivation Index (ADI). A key goal of our efforts is to disseminate results of our work to those who can use them to make a difference in the lives of people aging with HIV. To this end, we have established the Engagement and Dissemination Core (EDC). The EDC will be led by Julie Womack, MSN, PhD(Director) and Vincent Lo Re, MD, MSCE (Co-Director) with key input from the core. To support a focus on dissemination and health, we will use Designing for Dissemination and Sustainability (D4DS) to guide work conducted by the AWAR3E Center. This model focuses on the fit between innovation and the targeted context, the need to plan for dissemination and sustainability early in the research process, and the importance of including partners in all phases of dissemination planning and execution to ensure that innovations are designed to better address health and to improve adoption of health innovations among people with HIV. The EDC brings together End Users, Dissemination Partners, and Dissemination Experts reflecting highly synergistic domains. End Users include HIV community members, HIV healthcare providers, and members of the scientific community. Dissemination Partners include a rich variety of organizations that impact the health and well-being of individuals aging with HIV, including the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program, the AIDS Education and Training Center, Advancing Clinical Therapeutics Globally, Centers for AIDS Research, The Reunion Project, Ribbon, the Observational Pharmaco-Epidemiology Research and Analysis (OPERA) Cohort, NIAAA, and the VA HIV Care program. Dissemination Experts include the Yale Consumer Health Informatics Lab and the Yale Office of Public Affairs and Communications. Guided by this framework and our Core of experts, the EDC will provide essential review and input to project and pilot investigators regarding effective approaches to disseminating study results. The EDC will work closely with the Pilot Program to ensure effective training in research dissemination for early-stage/new-toalcohol- HIV/AIDS investigators. We will also collaborate with our HIV community members to train new, motivated community members to participate in clinical research. Finally, the EDC will work with the Administration, Data, and Analysis core, the Program Advisory Committee and the larger AWAR3E expert network to seamlessly integrate comprehensive dissemination planning into all projects. The EDC strategically builds on our existing expert network to facilitate effective, thoughtful dissemination of project outcomes.
