Abstract
ENRICHMENT PROGRAM PROJECT SUMMARY The mission of the Center for Gastrointestinal Biology and Disease is to promote multidisciplinary research on various aspects of clinically relevant gastrointestinal biology, pathophysiology, and epidemiology to reduce the burden of digestive disease. The overall principle that guides our Center is that improvement in the lives of patients with digestive and liver disease will be accelerated by multidisciplinary research on gastrointestinal biology that can be rapidly translated into new therapies. The Enrichment Program plays an important role in advancing our mission. The highly visible Enrichment Program promotes collaboration, builds community, and enhances the intellectual climate for gastrointestinal biological research. The Specific Aims of the Enrichment Program are as follows: 1) Increase collaboration and member engagement around digestive and liver disease. 2) Enhance the intellectual climate and environment for digestive disease research by hosting events including a weekly CGIBD Research Seminar, a weekly GI Epidemiology Seminar, annual research day including an academic skills workshop, symposium and poster session, and preparatory seminars to celebrate research, build community and inspire the next generation of scientists. 3) Expose CGIBD members and trainees to new ideas and networking opportunities related to digestive diseases by inviting visiting scholars to develop new research initiatives, showcase the Center, and meet with P/F awardees and T32 trainees. 4) Promote career development and provide mentorship.
