Abstract

Modified Project Summary/Abstract Section The Administrative Core will develop and direct a multidisciplinary, thematic research center at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) to support the advancement of Research Project Leaders (RPLs) who aim to improve health care and outcomes among trauma-affected populations via technology-enhanced and stakeholder-engaged biomedical research. Through the Administrative Core, the South Carolina Building Resilience through innovative Interventions to promote Growth & Health after Trauma COBRE (BRIGHT Center) will provide leadership, integration, and operational support to achieve the long-term goal of establishing sustainable infrastructure for a nationally competitive Center. As the pivotal interface for all BRIGHT projects, Cores, activities, and programs, the Administrative Core will strengthen capacity of our Research Project Leaders (RPLs) to conduct high-impact independent research with an emphasis on development and rigorous testing of innovative interventions and implementation strategies that aim to improve access and/or quality of care among individuals affected by trauma and adversity. The Administrative Core will also contribute to RPLs’ success by serving as the managing entity for the BRIGHT Research Cores in Digital Health, Community Engagement, and Dissemination and Implementation Science. Specific Aims for the Administrative Core include: (1) Leadership & Accountability: Provide leadership, integration, management, prioritization, oversight, and accountability for all BRIGHT Center Projects, Cores, activities, services, interactions, and dissemination of results; (2) Mentoring & Faculty Development: Foster the ability of our RPLs to obtain extramural funding and transition to independent academic research careers focused on the traumatic stress field by providing a comprehensive mentoring platform; (3) Pilot Projects Program (PPP): Develop a robust, competitive, peer-reviewed BRIGHT Center PPP to encourage MUSC researchers to investigate traumatic stress and adversity-related health, expand utilization of BRIGHT Center Cores, and increase the potential for these researchers to obtain federal research support; (4) Biostatistical & Qualitative Analysis Support: Enhance the effectiveness, rigor, and reproducibility of BRIGHT research by: a) supporting the biostatistical and qualitative analysis needs of all BRIGHT scientists, b) ensuring sound experimental design and analysis for all BRIGHT Center-supported projects, and c) developing novel qualitative and quantitative biostatistical methods to enhance the reliability and impact of BRIGHT studies; and (5) Center Evaluation: Implement a long-term, continuous evaluation plan that includes formative and summative assessments and specific milestones to strengthen the BRIGHT Center, its scientists, and BRIGHT Center-affiliated research programs.
