Abstract
STAKEHOLDER/COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND DISSEMINATION (SUCCEED) CORE: ABSTRACT Factors influencing maternal and reproductive health outcomes are complex and exist at multiple social ecological levels. Addressing maternal and reproductive health outcomes will require attention to effects on individuals embedded in a broader context of interpersonal relationships/families, organizations/institutions, communities, and policy environments.1,2 Stakeholder and Community Engaged Research (SCEnR) is an approach that has the potential to yield high impact science and advance the health of populations with limited access to research opportunities.,9 and can also serve to activate stakeholders.10 As funding agencies have become aware of the value of SCEnR, many are requiring some version of engagement in the research they fund. However, few researchers possess the necessary skills and support for SCEnR, hindering its widespread implementation. Junior faculty, who must focus on traditional academic deliverables (i.e., grants and publications) to advance their career, need dedicated support to conduct SCEnR. The SUCCEED Core is dedicated to addressing these issues by providing infrastructure, training, and customized support to Research Project Leaders (RPLs), Pilot Projects Investigators (PPIs), and other Maternal and Reproductive Community Health Excellence (MaRCH) Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) members in partnership with our Stakeholder Advisory Board (SAB). MaRCH COBRE SUCCEED core will be co-led by Dr. Kristie Hadden, Ms. Anna Huff (Community Health Worker [CHW], Staff Leader who lives in rural Arkansas), and Ms. Kelly Toney (Patient Stakeholder and SAB Board Chair) with the support of multiple principal investigator Dr. Pearl McElfish. Our specific aims are: Aim 1: Establish the SUCCEED Core infrastructure, including the establishment of an overarching SAB that will help guide Core activities. Aim 2: Provide customized SCEnR consultations for RPLs, PPIs, and other MaRCH COBRE members to meet the needs of their specific research. Aim 3: Facilitate training to increase RPLs, PPIs, and other MaRCH COBRE membersâ engaged research knowledge and skills. Aim 4: Engage stakeholders in broad dissemination of MaRCH COBRE results and products to participant, community, institutional, policy, and academic audiences. This initiative intentionally involves broad stakeholders, not just community members, balancing grassroots community members, patient stakeholders, institutional stakeholders, and policy stakeholders to contribute solutions to the complex health outcomes in maternal and reproductive health. This approach leverages existing community engagement cores in Arkansas while focusing uniquely on maternal and reproductive health and disseminating results to stakeholders. MaRCH COBRE will leverage and not duplicate other core services. The SUCCEED Core stands as a distinctive resource, offering new services not currently available in Arkansas, contributing to the broader goals of maternal and reproductive health access and outcomes.
