Abstract
PROJECT SUMMARY: CORE C (MILWAUKEE) Core C contains the central specimen management site and accompanying database, the central laboratory for sample testing, and serves as the coordinating IRB. The Core C PI, Dr. Veronica Flood, and the lead clinical research coordinator, Pam Christopherson, have extensive experience in sample management and VWF assays. Core C will facilitate the acquisition of additional samples, maintain the biorepository, assure the integrity and confidentiality of the database, and maintain IRB approval. Core C will also handle shipment of samples to other investigators as needed. The significance of this core is to continue a longitudinal cohort of samples that will enable serial VWF evaluation over time, and help explain the biology of VWF in terms of its genetics, regulation, clearance, and glycosylation. This is critical to improving our understanding of VWF and aging, the cause of increased VWF with age, and the impact of increased VWF with age on hemostasis and thrombosis.
