Abstract
PROJECT SUMMARY/ABSTRACT â CANCER CENTER ADMINISTRATION The Cancer Center Administration (CCA) at FCCC supports Senior Leaders, FCCC Members, Shared Resources, key research departments, manages the research budget and oversees Cottman Avenue Campus (CAC) research operations and space. The Associate Director for Administration (ADA), John Gricoski, MBA, CPA is the leader of the CCA. Gricoski reports directly to Chernoff, who has ultimate responsibility and authority over the strategic direction, budget, space utilization and personnel. Chernoff has granted authority to Gricoski to oversee administrative aspects of the Cancer Center. Gricoski has been the leader of the CCA since his appointment in July 2010. Gricoski serves on several key operating committees that are critical to operations and strategic direction of the FCCC. The ADA has direct authority over four departments that form the CCA 1) Office of Sponsored Research (OSR), 2) Shared Resources Administration (SRA), 3) Grants Management Department (GMD) and 4) Administrative Research Services (ARS). The CCA ensures that all FCCC members have the requisite resources (space, personnel, and funds) to conduct cancer research efficiently and effectively. The CCA provides administrative support for the following departments, functions, and offices that are critical to achieving strategic objectives: Community Outreach and Engagement (COE), Cancer Research Training Education Coordination (CRTEC), Office of Diversity Equity Inclusion and Access (ODEIA), Research Programs, Office of Clinical Research (OCR) and SRM. The CCA serves at the central hub and organizer of Cancer Center activities across the Cottman Avenue (CAC), Health Sciences (HSC) and University Campuses (UC). Gricoski has sole responsibility for administration for FCCC members on CAC. The ADA accomplished the following during this funding period by facilitating the: 1) transition to Chernoff as new CC Director; 2) development of the FCCC Strategic Plan, resulting in a reconfiguration of the Research Programs and reforming the SRM process; 3) investment of $10.6M to upgrade/renovate 11 Shared Resources (SR) for improved research efficiency and productivity; 4) creation of three new senior leadership positions; 5) establishment of new ODEIA office and expansion of COE; 6) receipt of over 280 awards, a success rate of 28%; 7) 17 pilot grant competitions that yielded 20 new grants and $17M of additional direct costs since 2019 and 8) facilitated cancer center membership for 31 new faculty hires since 2019. These and other administrative accomplishments have contributed to improvements in key metrics of success (2019-2023), including increases in Multi-PI Grants (+90%), NCI Funding (+12%), and Peer Reviewed funding (+21%). Over the next funding period, the ADA and CCA will 1) Monitor execution of the 2022-2027 FCCC Strategic Plan, SPRINT; 2) Expand efforts to optimize integration with the UC, and HSC, in particular LKSOM; 3) Assist with submission of multi-PI NCI grants, as well as K and T training grants, and 4) Assist with faculty recruitment in areas aligned with the Strategic Plan and the Plan to Enhance Diversity.
