Abstract

ADMINISTRATIVE CORE: PROJECT SUMMARY The role of the Administration, Advocacy, Planning, and Communication Core (Admin Core) is to coordinate and integrate the multiple components of the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center Specialized Program of Research Excellence in Breast Cancer (DF/HCC SPORE in Breast Cancer) and to provide scientific, administrative, and fiscal oversight of SPORE Projects, Cores, the Developmental Research Program (DRP), and the Career Enhancement Program (CEP). The Admin Core will aim to provide the following: Administrative Management: The Admin Core will provide the fiscal and administrative oversight of the DF/HCC SPORE in Breast Cancer, including financial accounting and reporting, coordination of research agreements, and pre- and post-award monitoring and reporting. Clinical Research Management: The Admin Core supports all investigators in the DF/HCC SPORE in Breast Cancer conducting clinical trials and facilitates the interaction and collaborations in the preparation, review and activation of clinical studies within the DF/HCC Breast Cancer Program and external sites. Integration of the SPORE within DF/HCC: The Admin Core promotes coordination and communication between SPORE investigators, the DF/HCC community and its leadership, the DF/HCC Breast Cancer Program and its established committees, which support clinical trial development and management; access to biospecimens and associated clinical data through the DF/HCC Breast Cancer Data and Specimen Users Committee and its associated data warehouse; and promotion of annual DF/HCC retreats. The Admin Core will coordinate the Shared Resources Leadership Committee and its quarterly meetings and the monthly Research-in-Progress meetings for updates. Patient Advocacy: The Admin Core integrates the work of our large and highly interactive Patient Advocacy Committee into the planning and evaluation of the DF/HCC SPORE in Breast Cancer, with guidance from Lead Advocates Christine McLaughlin and Paula Steeves. The Admin Core seeks to fully engage patient advocates in the four SPORE Projects, the DRP, the CEP and the Cores. Planning and Evaluation: The Admin Core provides rigorous scientific leadership and oversight for the SPORE Projects, the Cores, the DRP and the CEP through the DF/HCC SPORE in Breast Cancer External Advisory Board (EAB) and Internal Advisory Board (IAB) for routine evaluation of research progress.
