Abstract
PROJECT SUMMARY The Fred Hutch/University of Washington/Seattle Childrenâs Cancer Consortium leadership is comprised of highly experienced and effective senior leaders with established track records in the area(s) that they oversee. The Consortiumâs executive leadership team consists of the director, two deputy directors, and nine Associate Directors who have a demonstrated history of working together to support strategic priorities. In addition to the executive leadership team, the Consortium is also led by highly qualified Research Program, Clinical Research Support, and Shared Resources leaders. Guided by the executive leadership team, the refreshed Consortium Strategic Plan was generated by consensus after extensive input from Consortium members, institutional leaders, researchers, oncology providers, community stakeholders, administrators, and educators. The previous Consortium Strategic Plan emphasized a need for greater interinstitutional coordination, which led a restructure of adult oncology care between Fred Hutch and University of Washington and centralizing pediatric oncology care at Seattle Childrenâs. The current 2023-2027 Strategic Plan has three priorities: 1) to lead in scientific discovery and research innovation, 2) to foster collaboration with patients and communities, and 3) to strengthen our foundation of research and care. Input from the Consortiumâs External Advisory Board and from three regional Community Action Boards in Washington State (our catchment area) provides critical feedback on Consortium priorities, activities, and progress. With the help of Consortium Administration, robust processes have been created to evaluate progress toward the goals set out in the planning process, report the results of the evaluations back to members and leadership, review responses to the evaluations, and evaluate the outcomes of those responses. The specific aims for Leadership, Planning & Evaluation are to: 1) Generate and modify the strategic plan for the Cancer Consortium; 2) Align activities across Consortium partners to meet strategic priorities, ensuring that overarching strategic themes centered on Community Outreach & Engagement and Cancer Research Training & Education are disseminated and carried out; 3) Foster high-impact research and translation across the catchment area and beyond; and 4) Review Consortium activities, assess responses to external review, and re-evaluate subsequent outcomes.
