Abstract

SUMMARY – Administra1ve Core The proposed P01 Program centered at Emory University and coordinating with Virginia Tech will pursue the primary goal of advancing fundamental understanding of influenza A virus transmission. The complexity of transmission demands a research strategy that is well integrated and multi-disciplinary. The Administrative Core to this program will therefore provide the constructive, collaborative environment needed to achieve the program’s scientific objectives through the coordinated effort of a team of scientists with diverse and complementary expertise. The Administrative Core will ensure smooth running of the project, with oversight over financial considerations and reporting to NIH. Importantly, this Core will convene recurring meetings among the Project and Core leads and ensure that lines of communication are consistently open. The Administrative Core will also be responsible for ensuring the rich sample set acquired through the clinical studies is accessed in a way that maximizes the data obtained from each sample and that data are effectively shared among program components to ensure the most impactful avenues of data analysis are pursued. The Administrative Core will achieve these goals by executing the overall management and coordination of P01 activities, facilitating integration across Projects and Cores and acting as a centralized resource for communication of results to external stakeholders. Through a highly innovative experimental approach and a synergistic combination of key disciplines, the proposed program will bring major advances in fundamental understanding of influenza A virus transmission.
