Abstract

Administrative Core - Abstract The Penn Virome Characterization Center Program (VCC) consists of a highly interactive team of experienced investigators who are seeking to take advantage of diverse longitudinal cohorts to study the human virome in healthy individuals. The Administrative Core will provide the necessary organizational and administrative structure as well as scientific oversight to support our integrated studies of the healthy human virome. Our Program brings together a group of experienced investigators on the shared campus of the University of Pennsylvania and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia with complementary expertise and a history of productive collaborations, and leverages a set of existing cohorts and biobank repositories ideally designed to advance the goals of the HVP. The Administrative Core is co-led by the Penn VCC program directors Drs. Ronald Collman and Frederic Bushman, who have a long track record of successful joint program leadership as well as management of complex initiatives. Their primary objectives will be to provide scientific leadership, together with the Penn VCC Executive Committee, monitor the scientific progress of the program, oversee distribution of resources, stimulate project interactions, promote data integration, integrate the Penn VCC with the larger HVP program, and ensure compliance with all regulatory and NIH guidelines. To accomplish this goal the Administrative Core will: Aim 1. Provide scientific and operational leadership to each element of the Penn VCC to maximize scientific progress and optimize efficiency. The core will oversee productivity within each project, including monitoring achievement of milestones. Aim 2. Coordinate within the Penn VCC to ensure effective interactions between our cores and collaborators. The Core will coordinate communication among all team members via in-person and electronic forums. It will organize interactions with our Advisory Board. It will organize regular meetings to accommodate both in-person and virtual attendance, for each Project and Core, and the full Program Team. Aim 3. Coordinate interactions between the Penn VCC, NIH, and other VCCs within the HVP. The Administrative Core will also organize interactions with NIH and other VCCs, and assist investigators in maintaining project-specific federal and institutional regulatory compliance. The core will further oversee the Penn VCC diversity initiative, and the evaluation and distribution of Pilot Grants in years 3-5.
