Abstract
Project Summary â Curation and Informatics Component Under our instituteâs Nonhuman Primate Reagent Resource, the NIH P40-funded âNonhuman Primate Antibody Resource for Immune Cell Depletion,â will continue to design, generate, validate, and distribute vital antibody resources for nonhuman primate (NHP) research studies. For over 24 years, our reagents have been pivotal in generating essential data into fundamental biological processes, insights into mechanisms of disease pathogenesis, and pre-clinical data for biomedical research. The NHPRR is one of only a few Centers dedicated to NHP reagents that has an already established robust webportal to catalog and curate our reagents. Our webportal boasts a visitor base of >8,000 users and manages the sales and distribution of over 200 antibody products to more than 20 countries. As our P40 Center continues to expand, it is critical to establish a dedicated Curation and Informatics Component that will be responsible for maintaining and updating the webportal and ensuring best practices for data management and sharing that align with the NIH FAIR and TRUST policies. These policies are critical to promote rigor and reproducibility for NHP studies to advance scientific discovery and eliminate wasted time, and resources. The Curation and Informatics Component will be responsible for assigning unique identifiers to the reagents developed by the P40 as well as all associated data, protocols, grants, publications, users, and animal models. We have an established collaboration with SciCrunchâthe original advocates for the use of persistent unique identifiers (PIDs) to link Research Resource Identifiers (RRIDs). SciCrunch will also help train our Curation and Informatics Component on best practices for reagent curation so that our Center can become fully self-sufficient. For the P40 renewal, we have established a collaboration with the Macaque Genotype and Phenotype Resource to link our reagent validation and resources to add gene associations to the many features available to investigators on our webportal. Working with our UMass Chan IT and library research resources, the Curation and Informatics Component will maintain and update the web-based platform to disseminate information on reagents available. Our secure web-based reagent ordering system and a well-established fulfillment process will be utilized for timely response to reagent requests. These resource activities will be integrated with antibody reagent activities supported by other funding sources and frequently publicized through News bulletins on the webportal as well as outreach efforts to NHP investigators. As one of the few NHP reagent centers in the nation, our Curation and Informatics Component continues to develop best practices for data management and sharing of crucial research reagents. Our long-term vision for our data practices is to enable the identification, validation, connection, and aggregation of research data across NHP centers and studies.
