Abstract
Revised Abstract Section The goal of the Clinical Research Education and Career Development (CRECD) program at Morehouse School of Medicine (MSoM) is to continually respond to the critical need for trained clinical and translational researchers with appropriate perspectives in health areas that impact populations across the United States. This renewal will continue our tradition of identifying highly motivated doctorally prepared candidates early in their academic career. In Component I, candidates will participate in courses within the established MSCR curriculum for skills development and research experiences. Component II will provide pilot project support and mentoring in clinical and translational research (CTR). The renewal will utilize new online/virtual training capability to expand the reach of the program both within MSoM and across CTSA partner institutions/collaborators. We will further expand our educational activities with a primary focus on research experiences and courses for skills development with personalized training pathways for doctorally trained health professionals/scholars and the flexibility to develop new skills to conduct CTR by accomplishing the following Specific aims: Specific Aim 1: Promote and enhance personalized career development of postdoctoral health professionals/scholars at MSoM through collaboration with CTSA graduate degree- granting programs at MSoM, Emory, UGA, and Georgia Tech and prepare them to become successful CTR investigators and leaders of multidisciplinary research teams focused on health outcome variations; Specific Aim 2: Strengthen the partnership with the National Research Mentoring Network (NRMN) to provide access to professional development and mentor training ; and Specific Aim 3: Support and innovate the CRECD program with didactic and mentored CTR training to CRECD scholars and other trainees.
