Collection and Distribution of Blood Components from Healthy Donors for In Vitro Use

Abstract

Since August 30, 2022, 88 new research donors enrolled onto the protocol. From July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023, 545 apheresis collections and 233 whole blood donations were collected on protocol 99-CC-0168, with 20% of whole blood research collections from HH donors. To optimize the use of resources, one apheresis procedure or whole blood collection was designed to provide aliquots to more than one laboratory or investigator. In this manner, a total of 4,684 aliquots prepared from these donations were distributed to investigators. NIAID and NCI remain the major users of research blood components from healthy volunteers, accounting for 34% and 17% of total research product distributions, respectively.
