Abstract
In FY 2023, the Viral Production Core Facility initiated 44 projects for producing 63 AAV and lentivirus viral vectors; 50% of the projects were for NINDS labs. The other projects were for laboratories in NIMH, NCI, and NIAAA. These multi-institutional projects of particular scientific significance included: 1) design and construction by the core of an AAV capable of expressing protein and shRNA from the same viral construct for an NINDS laboratory; 2) production of a second-generation rabies viral vector for retrograde targeting of projection neurons for a laboratory in NIAAA; 3) design and construction by the core of INTRSECT expressing AAVs for an NIMH laboratory; 4) production of lentiviral vectors for screening CAR-T constructs for labs in NCI. The service the core facility provided to NINDS/NIH labs beyond essential viral vector production also included consultations on the use of viral vectors and assistance in research and design of projects for specific targeting by viral vectors.
