Abstract
We have made significant advances on multiple fronts related to cardiovascular risk biomarkers, which is a new project for our group but has resulted in several published papers indicated below. Most notably, we have developed a new equation that includes apoB as an independent variable for more accurately estimating cholesterol content of VLDL for making the diagnosis of Type III dyslipidemia and for more accurately estimating low LDL-C. We have also continued to make progress in extracting feature from NMR analysis for improving the diagnosis of cardiovascular disease and in collaboration with another intramural investigator showed its potential as prognostic indicator for CHF. We also developed a novel function assay for HDL that was more predictive of HDL-C or cell based cholesterol efflux in predicting future ASCVD events and recently published it in JCI. Finally, we have participated in several consensus guidelines/recommendations for various national and international organizations for the use of lipid-related cardiovascular biomarker testing.
