Abstract

This is a continuing collaboration with Dr. Alan Remaley of NHLBI and Dr. Alexander Bocharov of the Clinincal Center. Using an x-ray microscopy technology we developed previously, we perform non-invasive measurements of the amount of tissue calcification in intact, fresh moue aorta samples for the various genetically modified moue models from our collaborators. As part of the technical development effort we published an online calibration method to improve the resolution of the scans 1. The measurements we made contributed to a study of the differential effect of soybean oil enriched with different types of unsaturated fatty acids on the development of atherosclerosis in a genetic mouse model 2. To further streamline the measurement process for a large number of samples, we are developing an inverted version of the x-ray microscope for better sample handling. 1.
