Abstract
Specific aims for this project include: 1. Determine molecular mechanisms of radiation-induced alterations in glutamate metabolism in the CNS. 2. Monitor radiation-induced changes in glutamate induced by external beam radiotherapy. 3. Determine if interruptions in glutamate metabolism, such as through pharmacological intervention, can alter the effects of external beam radiotherapy in the various substructures in the CNS. 4. Define how changes in glutamate signaling correlates to neurocognitive changes by to comparing glutamate metabolism data acquired form imaging to serum marker data being collected from data analysis of NIH Protocol 08-C-0214 - A pilot study to measure neurocognitive changes from whole brain radiotherapy.
