Abstract

Our lab does almost all work in vivo, using microscopy, electrophysiology, optogenetics, and related techniques, whereas the lab space we inherited was used for in vitro work. The renovation included two phases. In the first phase: two small rooms used for in vitro work were converted into rooms for in vivo two photon microscopy and physiology; in addition, the open lab space was partially renovated via countertop, shelf, and desk replacement. This phase was completed in the fall 2021. In the second phase, a cold room was converted to a behavioral training room; an open storage room was converted to a surgery room; another storage room was converted into a third room for in vivo neurophysiology and microscopy. This phase was completed in March 2023. Related lab space projects included temporarily converting one room in a separate building to a satellite lab facility for in vivo microscopy and surgery. This was to handle the requirement that all of our mouse lines be rederived. We vacated this temporary space in Jan. 2023. Thus all space activation/renovation was completed around March 2023.
